History - Past to Present:
|
I learned to read music from the age of 4, and my first vocal performance was at the ripe old age of 6. I've been around music all my life and I love it. As a young adult I toured the country with a gospel group, where I learned how to perform for an audience instead of just singing to them. Those were some valuable life lessons.
I studied music theory and harmonics with Berklee College of Music. Just recently I finished their online courses in vocal technique, which I thoroughly enjoyed. One more class and I will have a Specialist Certificate in Vocal Technique. That class, Basic Ear Training, begins on Jan.12th.
About 7 years ago, I became involved with an Alan Parsons Project tribute band that eventually morphed into a prog rock band doing our own original material. The band's name is Rubber Universe. Currently we have one CD, released early in 2008, called The Parliament of Fooles. It is done in the concept album style, focusing on the subjects of dreams and dreaming. Check out samples at http://www.rubberuniverse.net. We've received favorable reviews on several prog music Web sites, as well as in Progression Magazine. The CD is available on cdbaby.com and kinesiscd.com Web sites. A couple of the songs I have uploaded to my profile are from this CD. Also uploaded is my (abbreviated) rendition of House of the Rising Sun, which was my last vocal techniques class assignment. Drop a line and let me know what you think!
Due to the fact that the members of Rubber Universe are -um- geographically challenged, we don't get to do too many gigs together. For this reason, I am also looking for a local band who could use my vocal talents and appreciate what I can "bring to the table". I am interested in anyone working on original music who could use a hand arranging vocals and/or singing, as well as gigging with a band - covers or originals make no difference to me. If I can hear it, I can learn it, although I am well aware of the fact that my voice is not suited to every song. I prefer working with a band that has multiple vocalists for that very reason. I enjoy singing Progressive rock music, but I love Alternative, Jazz and Folk music as well.
Contact me if you are interested!
